Kyla Ledford was selected as the Blount County ECD employee of the month for August 2017. Kyla worked for us as a full time dispatcher a few years ago and left due to family responsibilities. She returned as a part time employee and when the opportunity presented itself recently she returned to full time. She recently demonstrated her expertise and experience in handling a serious call in what was finally determined to be a domestic violence situation.
In July, Kyla received a call from a female who spoke only Spanish. Upon using the language line, the interpreter was able to obtain a house number. Kyle entered the house number under the road search option in the computer aided dispatch (CAD) and this displayed all of the roads with this house number. The interpreter advised all he could understand was the word "rock" from the caller. Kyla recognized there was an address with the same box number in Rockford city and read it off. She immediately heard the caller reply "si si". Kyla quickly dispatched the appropriate emergency personnel and ensured the caller and all concerned received the immediate assistance they needed.
Because of Kyla's knowledge and persistence in figuring out where the caller was located, she was able to prevent a possible tragedy.
