Ja'Nett Brabson was selected as the June 2017 employee of the month. Ja'Nett is a 19 year veteran dispatcher and serves as a certified training officer (CTO) for the center. She recently demonstrated her expertise and experience in handling a serious call for help.
Ja'Nett received a call from a male stating his wife was having her baby. Ja'Nett processed the call information to determine active or even possibly imminent delivery as the caller had stated his wife's water had broken.Ja'Nett spoke calmly to the caller, reassuring him help was on the way while obtaining continual updates for the mothers status. The caller was busy trying to call parents of other children they were babysitting, unlocking house doors, etc. Ja'Nett stayed focused on getting updates on the mothers condition, asking questions such as, was the baby reported by doctors to be breach? These questions were important as Ja'Nett knew she would need to gather EMD protocol from a different guide card depending on the answers. At a point later in the call, after hearing the mother scream out, the caller advised they had a baby. He had the baby in his hands. Ja'Nett remained calm and began following Med protocol asking about the baby's breathing status as well as the mothers status. She gave pre-arrival information regarding cutting the umbilical cord, etc.
Ja'Nett did an exceptional job handling this call. She followed EMD protocol using the correct guide card to give pre-arrival instruction, dispatched responders in a timely manner and exhibited professional, empathetic customer service. Ja'Nett is a valuable asset to the communications center as well as the citizens of Blount County. Her hard work and dedication is recognized and much appreciated.
